Helena is an experienced insurance lawyer. Her portfolio of work includes advising on coverage issues under a wide range of (re)insurance policies, acting for (re)insurers in relation to complex disputes, drafting and reviewing policy wordings for a wide range of products and advising on compliance and regulatory issues which affect the insurance industry.

Many of the matters on which she advises involve cross-border issues and she acts for insurance companies in London and internationally as well as Lloyd’s Syndicates Managing General Agents and intermediaries. She has advised industry associations on matters affecting the industry as a whole.
Helena has been involved in a number Commercial Court cases on behalf of (re)insurers including Brit UW Ltd v F&B Trenchless Solutions Ltd  EWHC 2237 (Comm) regarding policy avoidance, Tokio Marine Europe Insurance Ltd v Novae Corporate Underwriting Ltd  EWHC 2105 on aggregation and Markel & QBE v SGC & Ors  EWCA Civ 790 concerning breach of authority under a binding authority and fraudulent activity. She has advised and acted in a number of mediations and arbitrations and negotiated a number of commercial settlements. Her policy experience includes General Commercial Liability (public liability), Property insurance and reinsurance, offshore energy, trade credit, CAR and EAR, and cyber liability.
Recently, Helena has been advising on the implications and impact of the Data Protection Act 2018, Insurance Distribution Directive, Senior Management and Certification Regime and Brexit. She is regularly invited to present on current issues affecting the industry to companies and associations.
Helena has spent time on secondment at large insurance and reinsurance companies in France, Germany and Bermuda. She is a fluent French speaker. In addition to her legal work Helena is a mentor on the panel of IRLA YPG and is also a mentor for others in the industry and is involved with a number of industry organisations.
